Art House Cinemas

Kino Světozor

Kino Světozor is one of the best art house cinemas in Prague.

Situated on bustling Vodičkova Street, just off of Wenceslas Square and in a shopping / entertainment passage bearing its name, this movie theater complex features both a large viewing hall and a small one. The art house cinema complex also has some common areas which are used during different movie festivals (such as the Bollywood Festival when a room and hallway outside of the large viewing hall are turned into a colorful Indian market with food, spice stalls, henna artists, clothing, etc.), as well as a cozy bar that offers its own beer on tap, wine, coffee, small snacks and more – all of which can be consumed inside the screening halls or in its individually decorated “rooms”. This is a great place to see a movie, whether it be an old classic (Czech or international), a new hit or an art house independent pick – all are screened here. Czech movies are often screened with English subtitles so for those of you longing to get to know this mysterious culture and the specific sense of humor surrounding it, this is a good place to start. Kino Světozor hosts various movie festivals throughout the year (check out their user-friendly Czech and English website), interesting, thought provoking documentaries usually in the presence of their directors, as well as live HD Met performances from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Furthermore this cool establishment features a small well-stocked shop called Terry Posters where you can find an impressive collection of all things cinema including DVDs, clothing, original posters, fiction and more. The original poster collection is huge and deals with Czechoslovakian movie posters spanning from 1930-1989, some of which are usually on display in the halls of the movie complex.
