Located in the center of Prague is the Leica Gallery Prague, a gallery complete with a great cafe and bookshop that focuses mainly on exhibiting contemporary Czech and Slovak photography.
The gallery, which has been operating since 2002 (in the current location since 2008. The gallery used to host exhibitions in the Supreme Burgrave's House of the Prague Castle before moving to their permanent New Town location) hosts six to seven photography exhibitions a year as increasing photography awareness to the general public is one of their main goals. The gallery also runs an onsite cafe where you can sample delicious coffee, light snacks and homemade desserts in a modern hip setting. And if you happen to be a photography lover and feel the need to add to your coffee table collection of books, the gallery offers an extensive collection of photographic publications for sale. Leica Gallery Prague exhibits not only Czech and Slovak artists but also has shown the works of well known international talents that include such famous names as Elliott Erwitt, Mark Ellen Mark, Anton Corbijn, Helmut Newton, Leni Riefenstahl, Edward Steichen, René Burri, Sebastião Salgado, Antonín Kratochvíl, Wim and Donata Wenders, Ruud van Empel, Sarah Moon, Michel Comte and Andreas H. Bitesnich. Leica Gallery Prague also cooperates and supports other photography exhibitions in Prague galleries, tries to present photography exhibitions in new unique ways (such as presenting images in public spaces outside), and presents local photography outside of the Czech Republic – it is interesting, for example, to note that Leica Gallery Prague as the only Czech gallery has participated in the Paris Photo exhibition now for the fourth time. If you are a fan of photography we highly urge you to check out this New Town gallery, cafe and bookshop.
