Lukáš Houdek, a talented glassmaker originally from Nový Bor, creates unique glass items. He uses his work to reflect typical Czech humorous insight as well as contextual artistic puns - Lukáš Housek himself comments on his work as “a way to display his humor.”
The authorship of his glass products lies in the search for new applications of traditional glass elements. The most famous glass products made by Lukáš Houdek are, among others, the Vittonka bottle (a classic beer glass combined with the world-wide known design graphics of the Louis Vuitton fashion brand) and the Cola glass (a combination of a traditional glass stem together with the classic Coca Cola bottle shape). Thanks to excellent design facilities situated in the HG Atelier Design studio owned by Lukáš's brother, Filip Houdek (who introduced him to glass), Lukáš is able to design and create the majority of the products, a fact that surely adds value to his work. As a result of everyday contact with the glass material, Lukáš Houdek belongs among artists who are utterly familiar with their products, from the concept to the material and manufacturing and can, therefore, create extraordinary, original, yet functional products. Lukáš Houdek comes from Nový Bor, a small city with a long tradition of glassmaking. He graduated from Rony Plesl's Glass Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, where he began to connect his work with contemporary art and design. Lukáš Houdek has taken part in many exhibitions, both in the Czech Republic and abroad, such as the ZIBA Prague Glass Experience Museum in Prague, the Sansscousi Hotel in Karlovy Vary and the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. The iconic products made by Lukáš Houdek will please everyone who has a delicate sense of humour and respect for the art of the glassmaking.
