Established in 1966 in the Veneto region by Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro, Bottega Veneta, which translates to “Venetian Atelier” made its mark in the fashion world with fine Italian leather goods that were known for their durability, fine craftsmanship, and the intrecciato technique – a signature style of the company that features weaved leather. The company was popular with the jet set crowd and was even immortalized due to the fact that the one and only Andy Warhol made a short promotional film for the Italian company in the 80s. In the 90s Bottega Veneta successfully ventured into the fierce territory of fashion to the joy of lovers’ of the elegant Italian brand. In 2001 the Gucci Group acquired Bottega Veneta and under the watchful eye of creative director Tomas Maier has gone on to offer gorgeous collections of not only leather goods and fashion but also jewelry, furniture and home fragrances. In 2006 Bottega Veneta opened the Scuola della Pelletteria, a school for leather artisans, which has and will continue to assure high quality, handmade production of top Italian leather goods.
