The National Museum

The unusual structure located between the historical building of the National Museum and State Opera, which once served as the headquarters of Radio Free Europe and the Czechoslovak parliament, has been a part of the National Museum since 2009.

The oldest part of the building was created in 1938 according to the project of the architect Jaroslav Rösler and served as the Prague stock market. In the 1960s the building was rebuilt and a unique superstructure according to the plans of architects Karel Prager, Jiří Kadeřábek and Jiří Albrecht was attached to the building. Since 2009 the building became a part of the National Museum that exhibits its collections in 11 buildings in Prague and several others all over the Czech Republic. The New Building of the National Museum houses temporary exhibitions as well as provides lectures on various topics, such as numismatics, mineralogy and history. Wednesdays are dedicated to lectures on traveling. A part of the building is a museum shop that offers souvenirs, postcards and scholarly books, as well as a cafe with a children's corner and a lunch menu on offer. The building has barrier-free access. The museum is open every day and every first Wednesday of the month has extended hours.
