Kbely Aviation Museum

The Kbely Aviation Museum, located in four hangars at the Kbely Airport, maps the development of Czechoslovak and Czech aviation.

The Kbely Aviation Museum was first presented to the public in 1968 and its opening was a great success. At that time 62 planes acquired from the military's Air Force, and various museums and aero clubs were exhibited there. Nowadays, this seasonal museum of the Military History Institute in Prague has more than 2,200 items in its collection which are all related to aviation, astronautics, skydiving and meteorology, and out of which 300 or so are permanently exhibited. The Kbely Aviation Museum registers almost 300 pieces of aircraft, of which 124 are exhibited (in Kbely and other locations). Besides Czechoslovak aircraft, mainly military, the museum also features selected types of important airplanes from abroad, as well as aircraft engines, munitions, uniforms and more. As the only museum in the world to do so, the Kbely Aviation Museum boasts both types of single engine multirole fighters used in World War II. The tradition of presenting new and interesting exhibits, including a display of their operation, is kept up on National Aviation Day as well as during the annual museum opening ceremony. Plan your visit so that you can see the machines in action or visit the museum anytime you feel the urge to see old aircraft models and other exhibits connected with aviation. However, take into account that the museum is open only during the warmer months from May till October.
