The shop and cafe bears the name of its owner and head pastry chef, Lukáš Skála, himself the son of a professional dessert-maker. Skála learned his craft in Texas and Mexico before returning to Prague and working in the kitchen of the Hotel Intercontiental and Bruxx, where his filled chocolates and desserts became highly sought after. Recognizing his talent, the Together Restaurant network team, the food geniuses behind Bruxx and Sia, helped him launch his own sweet shop in the center of Prague near Masaryk Train Station and Náměstí republiky square. Stepping inside Cukrář Skála is like stepping inside a modern gallery, except the art is edible. A long row of display cases reveals traditional Czech sweets, such as cream-filled rolls, cream-topped cookies covered in chocolate icing, layered meringues topped with chocolate and nuts, as well as international and original creations, like the carrot cake, tartelette topped with seasonal fruit, and potato dough fruit pie. The pralines are not only beautifully colorful, but also delicously decadent. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and will help you pick the right accompaniment to your cup of coffee. Or try their homemade ice cream, popsicles, or ice cream cake, perfect during hot summer days. The interior was designed by the premier restaurant architect Václav Červenka, who opened the space up to allow customers to see into the kitchen.
