The annual Designblok international festival of design and fashion is a place where the latest trends meet innovative concepts and traditional crafts. The Selected by Svoboda & Williams magazine took part in this inspiring event to continue to introduce readers to interesting people and young talents in architecture, design, and culture.
The central theme of the 26th annual festival was “Youth”. Over two hundred designers and brands presented their unique perspective on the topic to the professional and general public. Under the auspices of the Selected by Svoboda & Williams magazine, the Balance is Motion studio unveiled its latest collection of imaginative acoustic furniture entitled “Tectonia”. Its cabinet, sideboard, chest of drawers, and table that artfully play with a morphology bringing to mind tectonic activity beneath the earth’s surface were created for the Czech brand Ekustik, which is famous worldwide for its meticulously crafted acoustic elements.
The joint installation of Tectonia furniture and Selected by Svoboda & Williams was held in Bastion in Prague’s Florenc neighborhood, where festival goers could meet the designers, creators, and representatives of the Selected magazine throughout the festival. “We wanted to create the ideal esthetic and acoustic conditions for listening to music, which we see as a defining aspect of youth. Even later in our lives, music often plays the role of an imaginary bridge that connects to memories and thereby reawakens our youth,” explains Filip Mirbauer, Creative Director of Balance is Motion.
“The long-term goal of Selected by Svoboda & Williams is to support young Czech talents and introduce them to our readers. We noticed Balance is Motion’s work at last year’s Designblok, which inspired us to make a joint presentation this year,” says Natálie Bartošová, marketing director at Svoboda & Williams.
