The Renaissance – the celebrated rebirth of art, beauty and culture. The beauty of Renaissance architecture was brought to life by Filippo Brunelleschi and his dome in Florence. Occurring between the early 15th and 17th centuries, the Renaissance style spread quickly across Italian towns to France, Germany and the surrounding areas, and even to England and Russia. The rebirth of the Renaissance saw, in architecture, a return to symmetry, proportion and geometry in columns, pilasters, domes and niches. Prague has only a handful of Renaissance buildings, however they are all quite worth your time due to their highly intriguing Sgraffito-ornamented facades. Sgraffito, a Renaissance method similar to that of the fresco method was commonly used on facades of Renaissance buildings in Central Europe.
