House at the Golden Ring

Besides a long-term exhibition of contemporary Czech art run by the City Gallery Prague, short-term exhibitions also take place throughout the four floors of the House at the Golden Ring.

In the Middle Ages, the House at the Golden Ring consisted of two independent buildings that were later merged into one. The cellar and corridor with its vaulted ceiling on the first floor come from the older early Gothic period. The permanent exhibition on display at the House at the Golden Ring focuses on the big names in Czech art of the 20th century, such as Toyen, Jan Zrzavý, Jiří Kolář and others. On the ground floor of the building, exhibitions of work by young emerging artists take place; these exhibitions are always accessible for free. On the second floor visitors will find a reading room open to the general public, where you can study scholarly texts on fine arts, as well as art magazines and exhibition catalogues on artists whose work is represented in the collections of the City Gallery Prague. From the entrance hall of the building you can get to the Týnská Literary Cafe, where you can enjoy some post-art appreciation relaxation and a cup of coffee after the tour. The House at the Golden Ring is open Tuesday through Sunday, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
